The Ziibi Press is the publishing arm of the Center for the Study of Indigenous Border Issues (CSIBI) which is incorporated
in the State of Michigan as an
educational non-profit organization.

(Ziibi is the Ojibwe word for
"river" --as in Mississippi).

While the main focus of CSIBI is concerned with the political boundaries that often divide Indigenous Peoples,
the concept of "border issues"
for us is much broader.

Other boundaries that Indigenous people must often transverse are those that separate our cultures from that of the visitors. That is, we wish to explore what it means to be an Indigenous person in this era of mass consumption and environmental destruction.

This book is our first publishing effort and it explores that "border" between Indigenous communities and "The Academy" --especially, graduate school. Many disadvantaged students fail to negotiate that "higher-ed" boundary. We are hopeful that the information in this book will help reverse that trend.
